Case report: Total Knee replacment

Success story of total knee arthroplasty surgery.

A 55 -year-old female presented to our hospital in January 2016 with complaints of worsening left knee pain. She first noticed the pain while climbing stairs which worsened prolonged standing, walking, bending to the point, she was unable to walk for more than few meters.

Imaging studies revealed severe tricompartmental osteoarthritis of the left knee. Her range of motion for left knee limited to 15- 80 degrees.

Considering the lifestyle limiting knee pain, the patient was advised left total knee replacement. All the risks, benefits and alternatives were discussed in detail with the patient. The patient agreed to go ahead with the procedure.

She underwent TKR in January 2016. Post-op the patient’s recovery was good with normal vitals. She was able to walk with support from 2nd day post operation. She was discharge 3 days later. Over the course of three months, she was able to walk without support and all the symptoms before TKR were relieved.

One & half year later in August 2017, patient came with history of fall on operated knee. Xray showed medial varus collapse with loosening of previous prosthesis. She underwent revision TKR in October 2017. Post op 2nd day she. These revision surgeries need preoperative planning in terms of instrumentation back up and hinge knee.  Post-op her vitals remained stable, and he was able to walk the 2nd day post-surgery. The patient was advised by physical therapy and home exercise programs. Below is the video of patient when she recently came for follow up.
